Linda Renouf is 2011 Corsair Seawind Australian Multihull Champion (Div 2)

The Australian Championships were held on Moreton Bay in late September, hosted by the Royal Queeensland Yacht Squadron. The Renouf family are regulars at Palm Beach, where, with husband David and their daughters, they also sail a Hobie 16. Crewed by daughter Sophie, Linda steered Dash to a top three finish in all six races to win the Division Two championship by six points from Frassid (Shaun Fishley) with another two points to Iain MacDougall in Goldfinger. Linda and Sophie sailed the Corsair Dash 750 to three 1sts, two 2nds, and a (throwaway) 3rd. Linda's victory is no surprise to those aware of her track record: she is a past US A-Class Cat Champion.

If you are thinking of trying sailing for the first time, or getting back to it after a break, come up to Palmy and join us - younger sailors will be really welcomed by our teenagers, like Sophie. Any age is a good age to go sailing!

New A Class Cat photo discussion blog ...

There is now a blog to assist A-cat sailors development and boat rigging and tuning. You view and post photos of rigs, deck layouts, and other relevant things, and discuss amongst other A-cat sailors. http://a-catphotoblog.blogspot.com/  To post, you must assume the identity "A-cat Sailor", with the log in A.cat.sailors.blog[at]gmail.com (but insert @ for [at] - - this is just here to fool the spam bots) with the password acatisbestcat (A-cat is best cat)...and post away. If you use the same Title as others in the same vein it should keep the thread together. There are two starters up there now: Mast rotation, and Hull shapes. Save pics you want to reference later to your HD in case the blog goes down.

WOORAK RESERVE Update .... October 2011

RE Woorak reserve update

Club parking for PBSC Members 2011 season

Dear Members,

Just to bring you up to speed with the latest in developments relating to the parking area in Woorak reserve and the changes happening currently. Anthony met with Council last Friday 14th October 2011 and they have confirmed that our club can use the north section of Woorak Reserve ie behind the internal driveway that is to be fenced off with bollards and rails.

We have negotiated the provision of two access points to this north section, one about midway along the internal driveway section that is just west of Woorak Road and one off Woorak Road.

Access will be via a sliding post (like that on the southern part of the reserve) and Council will give us keys.

They are still to confirm that the club will get stickers to enable regular parking when it becomes metered but indicated verbally that it was the way forward.

The Reserve is to be turfed this week and expected to be open by November.

Regards

Palm Beach Sailors Podium Again!

Palm Beach sailors claim 2nd spot on the podium at the Oceania Championship, an international Hobie event held in Fiji this month! Congratulations to one of sailing's true gentlemen, Anthony Duchatel, and his dynamic and gutsy crew Evelyn Curtis. Anthony and Evelyn are regulars at Palm Beach, and we love getting beaten by him, and occasionally, showing him our sterns as well.

More on the Oceania Facebook page, including great photos of idyllic sailing conditions, HERE

* Note that thanks to Aussie sports commentators, the noun podium is now also a verb. So is medal. This is what happens when you're good at something - you get to rewrite the rules on language. Well, at PBSC, we love to medal and podium, but most of all we just love to sail and have fun! Come to our Try Sailing Day, dates to be announced very soon.

Catamaran sailing is not only more fun - it IS much faster!

Bruce Arms is sailing his catamaran Big Wave Rider into the history books in the next day or so, setting a new record for a solo circumnavigation of Australia. Follow his progress here: http://www.brucearms.com/ocean-tracker

PBSC congratulates Bruce and his support team - well done! It would be easy to say that Bruce Arms and his big fast cat are regulars at Palm Beach Sailing Club. In fact, there are many dynamic sailing clubs in Australia, and Bruce's club in Queensland is one of them - and so is Palm Beach on beautiful Pittwater!

Local Pittwater sailor Paul Darmanin named in OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Sailing Team

Local Pittwater and Manly sailor Paul Darmanin was named in the OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Sailing Team to contest the Volvo ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Turkey in July.

Hobie SailingPaul sailing with Chase Lurati of Victoria held out to win the Hobie 16 class in a light wind series. The Hobie 16 class went right down to the wire with Paul and Chase finishing just one point ahead of Andrew Gough and Grant Jackson of Queensland. The two crews won all nine races between them and were the standout boats of the fleet. Paul has been undertaking a comprehensive training program, sailing out of Pittwater in both the Royal Prince Alfred’s new Hobie Wave program and the Palm Beach Sailing Club to gain experience in the Hobie 16 Catamaran. Paul also sails in Flying 11’s out of Manly and flew straight to Tasmania for their Nationals. Paul’s sister Lisa and cousin Jason Waterhouse are the current ISAF Youth Champions and so he will have the best support possible in preparation for the next Youth Championships in Turkey.
