Palm Beach Sailing Club
  Hobie Catamaran Pre-Nationals Regatta

Palm Beach Sailing Clubs members excelled at the Pre Nationals Regatta held over the weekend of 24/25 November 2007 at Georges River Sailing Club.

Club members took out 6 of the top 10 positions, including 1st, in the Hobie 16 category and 2nd in the miscellaneous category.

The Regatta was run to test out preparations for the next Hobie National Titles to be held by the Georges River Sailing Club on the waters of Botany Bay.

The Pre-Nats produced great racing. Saturday saw 7 one lap sprint races in a 15 to 20 knot southerly while Sunday produced light westerly winds shifting to 12 knots easterlies with 3 longer races held.

Rod Waterhouse sailing with his niece Lisa Darmanin dominated in the Hobie 16's winning all but one race. Dave Fisher and Ainslie Gordon gave the current Hobie 16 World Campion, Mick Butler, a run for his money finishing 1 point behind in 3rd place. Andrew and Maria Nelson came home in 4th position followed by Jamie and Sarah Roberts in 6th, Andrew Tuite and Natalie Matkovic in 8th and Vaughn and Lucas Price in 10th.

To cap off the Clubs great performance Kyle Amadio and Doug McDonald sailing a Hobie Tiger, took out 2nd in the miscellaneous category.

Great work by the Georges River Sailing Club ensured an excellent pre nationals workout.

PBSC's results are a great for-runner to the Nationals to be held over the Xmas/NY period where the competition is bound to be as tough as that experience at the recent World Titles with around 80 boats expected from around Australia and the South Pacific.
