Commodore's report Feb 2010.

Welcome to 2010 - I trust that you have all had a good holiday season and have started the new decade on top of things.

Since our last Mainsheet we have packed in a few ‘special events’ to our Club calendar, as well as our ongoing racing programs.  Our main event was of course the Bullets Regatta.  This was held in November and was a success as usual making the Club a profit of about $1,300 – so well worth the effort that Club members put in and of course it couldn’t happen without our members’ support, friends and sponsors.  So a big thank you to all those that helped out, both on and off the water and to Sailing Scene for its continuous sponsorship support of the event.

We have also just recently hosted the Wave/16 Extreme Regatta staged from the Crystal Bay launch area and in conjunction with Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.  This was a great weekend.  It was terrific to see the young kids and members who are usually crewing out on the Waves enjoying good competition.  It was also an eye opener to see the more experienced sailors one-up on the 16’s.  I heard on the grapevine that some of the old boys hit that sack early on Saturday night!  A highlight for me for this weekend was Luke winning the “Most Improved” – that was the first trophy I ever won on a Hobie from the Royal Papua Yacht Club.

Over the last three months members have represented the Club at the World Masters Games in Sydney, the Australian National Hobie Championships in Perth and the Forster Regatta at Wallis Lake. As usual PBSC was up there in the medal count doing us proud.

Let’s hope the remainder of the 2010 season is as good as the past few months and that PBSC can keep going from strength to strength.  For me personally one of those strengths is our young members.  Not only are they the sailing champions of the future, but they are a really nice group of young people and role models for their peers.
